Why Express Entry cut-off scores were 760, 523 and 382 in the same week
Canada held three Express Entry rounds from August 17 to 19, 2026, but each round selected from a different group. The three minimum scores therefore do not form a single general cut-off.

Three rounds, three selection groups
The Express Entry rounds held from August 17 to 19 produced three very different Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores: 760, 523 and 382. Without context, those numbers may seem contradictory. They are not. Each score belongs to a specific round with its own targeted selection group and number of invitations.Official Express Entry round results ↗How Express Entry rounds work ↗
On August 17, round #435 targeted the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). IRCC issued 442 invitations, and the minimum CRS score was 760. On August 18, round #436 selected Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates: 1,000 invitations with a minimum score of 523. On August 19, round #437 targeted French-language proficiency, issuing 5,000 invitations with a minimum score of 382.Official Express Entry round results ↗
Together, the three rounds produced 6,442 invitations. That total combines selections made under different criteria. It does not turn the three rounds into one competition or create a common minimum score.Official Express Entry round results ↗
Why were the scores so different?
The CRS ranks candidates by score, but an Express Entry round does not have to consider every profile in the system. The government may hold rounds for a particular program or category, as it did during this sequence. How Express Entry rounds work ↗
Provincial Nominee Program round: CRS 760
The August 17 round considered Provincial Nominee Program candidates. Its 442 invitations and minimum score of 760 apply only to round #435. That result should not be used as a reference cut-off for the Canadian Experience Class or the French-language proficiency round.Official Express Entry round results ↗
Canadian Experience Class round: CRS 523
Round #436 issued 1,000 invitations to Canadian Experience Class candidates with a minimum score of 523. That number alone does not mean every profile with 523 points would have received an invitation. The program targeted by the round and the other applicable conditions still matter.Official Express Entry round results ↗
French-language proficiency round: CRS 382
Round #437 issued 5,000 invitations in the French-language proficiency category with a minimum score of 382. This was the lowest of the week's three scores, but it was not a general reduction in the Express Entry cut-off. It applies to the group considered in that specific round.Official Express Entry round results ↗How Express Entry rounds work ↗
What the results do and do not tell us
The official data show that IRCC held three consecutive rounds with different scopes, invitation totals and minimum scores. They do not explain why the government chose to issue exactly 442, 1,000 or 5,000 invitations. IRCC did not state its reason for the size of each round, so any further explanation would be speculation.Official Express Entry round results ↗
It is also unsafe to use one round's minimum score to predict the next. A future round may consider a different group, issue a different number of invitations or produce a different score. An invitation to apply is not an approval of permanent residence or admission to Canada. It allows the candidate to move to another stage, where IRCC assesses the application. How Express Entry rounds work ↗
Safe next steps
- Confirm each round's number, category and date on IRCC's official rounds page.
- Avoid comparing scores from different categories as though they were one cut-off.
- Review profile information and supporting documents without assuming a past round will repeat.
- Seek professional guidance before making decisions based on individual circumstances.
Unknowns, limits and next review
